Creating an Account Bin

In the graphic we desire to add another bin to Account 1. Using the right mouse button, gets the account creation dialog. The first decision to make is what zone is to contain the new bin. Here we choose Zone 1 in Res 1. Next we enter an initial credit for the bin and the maximum credit that the bin may accumulate.

The next step in the image loop is optional. Here we are saying that in the event that the new bin receives credits that would send its total over the maximum, those extra credits are to be given to the bin belonging to Account 1 and stored in Res 2. Notice that there is no hydraulic connection between these two bins. This is simply establishing a policy that Account 1 may transfer extra credits from Res 1 to Res 2. Since there are no other bins in the system at the moment, the bin in Res 2 would simply spill its excess credits.

Notice that once we accept the new bin it shows up both under its account and under the reservoir zone where it is stored. We have not filled in a number of items in the dialog at this point. Should we desire to do so later, we need simply click the right mouse button on the bin and select Edit.

Account Creation Dialog Fields
  • Reservoir Zone: The zone where the bin will be stored. This combo box will contain a list of all zones that have been created up to the point where the bin is created. When editing a bin, this box is greyed out. The bin will control the amount of system gains and losses that are available to the bin.

  • Initial Storage: The initial credit for the bin once the simulation starts.

  • Max Storage: The maximum credit the bin is allowed to accumulate. If the bin's policy causes it to try and accumulate credits beyond this point, they will spill.

  • Send Excess To: Optional. If the bin needs to spill credits, this field will designate a bin which is to receive them. Note that there need be no hydraulic connection between the bins. This is a credit transfer only.

  • Take Spill From: If this bin is forced to spill, it has the option of taking water from the zone selected in this dialog. The zone will generate a spill transaction and debit its bins according to their policies.

  • Priority and Right: If the check box is selected, a storage priority date may be selected. The storage right button will allow the specification of a time series indicating the amount of the right each time period.

  • Expiry: If this check box is selected, it allows the entry of a date upon which any accumulated rights expire.
